Osnabrück has many sights that you can reach on foot. Various digital city walks, guided tours and city tours are available. Many offers are unfortunately only available in German so far.
The free app "Discover Osnabrück" (available free of charge in the app stores) offers a great opportunity to intensively trace the history and stories surrounding the Peace of Westphalia. In it, the virtual guides "Magda, the market woman," and "Friedrich, the council messenger," present the peace city of Osnabrück on two approx. 2.5-kilometer-long tours using a total of 23 stops. The "Highlights Tour" takes users on the trail of the city's history to the most important places and sights of the city, such as the historic city hall, the cathedral with its witch's passage, the Bucksturm or the Hase. On the Peace Tour, you can explore some of the sites of the peace negotiations for the Peace of Westphalia as well as places of contemporary peace culture Osnabrück, including the Peace Hall, the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Center, the memorial "Old Synagogue" and the museum quarter MQ4 with the Felix Nussbaum House. With integrated selfie stations, quizzes, historical image collections and 360° recordings, the app offers versatile entertainment and information (not only) for those interested in history.
Guests do not need a different version for the English-language app. They can simply download the previous app from the respective platforms. Depending on the language setting on their own mobile device, the app automatically recognises the language.
The development of the app "Discover Osnabrück" was funded as part of the Union's response to the COVID-19 pandemic with grants from the European Union. Involved were the "European Regional Development Fund", "Europe for Lower Saxony, ERDF funding for the regions of Lower Saxony" and the initiative "Osnabrück. City Center. Experience."
The city guides know their way around - in the city and in the district. They mediate between past and present, tell exciting and cheerful stories, play theater and surprise you with a treasure hunt or culinary discoveries. Osnabrück from above can be experienced relaxed in a balloon and after the sporty ascent in the Marienkirchturm. And if you feel like it, take a tour at night.
