Fossilised mudflats, dinosaur tracks or Ice Age boulders: between the moors, wooded mountain ranges and river landscapes in the UNESCO Geopark TERRA.vita you can discover ancient witnesses to our Earth's history and climate change. There is hardly any other region in Germany where the 300-million-year-old history of the Earth's development can be traced - and experienced - so seamlessly in such a small area.
TERRA.vita was founded back in 1962, at that time as a nature park, and has since been committed to the coexistence of nature and man in the region. Today, TERRA.vita is one of only seven UNESCO Global Geoparks in Germany. Only areas with a geological heritage of international significance that also pursue strategic goals for sustainable tourism and regional value creation receive this designation.
A total of around 1,200 kilometres of hiking trails lead through the Geopark. You can enjoy hiking pleasures lasting several days on the Maple Trail, the Hune Trail, the DiVa Walk and the Mill Trail, which trace TERRA.vita's lifelines. For those who prefer shorter walks: 82 signposted hiking tours with a length of between 3 and 19 kilometres - the TERRA.tracks - invite you to see the varied landscape between the Teutoburg Forest and the Ankum Heights with different eyes.
