Bergkirche

Churches, Place to see
The Bergkirche is located on a hill of the Westerberg.

The Bergkirche was consecrated in 1893 as the first Protestant - Reformed church in Osnabrück. Built in the neo-Romanesque style and spared from air raids in the Second World War, it has now been showing the original painting in the interior again for some years.

History:

First new Protestant church building and first Protestant-Reformed church in Osnabrück!

  • In a Reformed church, there is a turning away from the course of the Mass celebration and concentration on the Word incl. the singing of the Psalms. The church does not have an altar, but a communion table. In addition, during the construction, conscious attention was paid to turning away from a purely sacred building.
  • The specifications for the architectural design go back to the liturgical needs of the Reformed. A pure preaching church without a choir was required, a simple design in local quarry and house stone masonry. In addition, the sacristy, sexton's flat and rectory were to be included on the site.
