In an old burgher's house in the old town, opposite the bishop's chancellery, the small brewery produces its own delicious beer specialities. The location of the Rampendahl belongs to the oldest bourgeois settlement area of the city, of which the destruction of the Second World War left only a few buildings standing. The brewery was named after a society of discontented citizens, the Rampendahlgesellschaft, which presumably took its name from an innkeeper of the pub where they met for deliberations over beer and wine. With its revolt against the council elite in 1430, it achieved only short-term success against the influence of the patrician families. In the end, the leaders of the uprising were executed.
In a rustic, quaint ambience, three different locally brewed varieties of Rampendahl beer are served here with hearty home cooking. Another well-known speciality of the brewery is the home-made spent grains bread made from spent grains residues, which is served to every guest as a welcome with a small barrel of lard.
