From naked mole rats to elephants: Osnabrück Zoo is home to more than 2,600 animals from 290 different species. On a tour, visitors can discover 12 different themed worlds - from Mariasiel on the North Sea to Samburu in the savannah. With 23.5 hectares, Osnabrück Zoo claims to be the largest in Lower Saxony. Many natural paths between the enclosures, aquariums, themed playgrounds and repeated stations for drinks and snacks ensure that you don't notice the hours and kilometers walked.
A special feature is the "Underground Zoo". The walk-through cave system provides 500 square meters of insight into the lives of prairie dogs, rats and naked mole rats that live largely underground. They walk through their glassed-in passageways before visitors' eyes. A separate grotto with moonlighting has been created for shrew long-tongued bats.
