In her first novel "The Horse in the Well", she finds her very own luminous, visually powerful narrative style. Intense snapshots come together to form a great story about four strong women in 20th and 21st century Russia. After the death of her grandmother, Valya returns to a Russian spa town near Kazan. She embarks on a search for clues and tries to understand where she comes from. She remembers the women she grew up with. All fundamentally different but united in their abhorrence of any dependency. Walja, who lives between worlds, between a North German village on the B77 and her childhood in Kazan, realizes more and more how deeply these lives have shaped her.

Valery Tscheplanowa can be seen as an actress in cinema and television films as well as on the most important German stages. She has received numerous awards, including the Berlin Art Prize and Actress of the Year 2017. Born in 1980 in Kazan in the Soviet Union, she came to Germany at the age of eight. She now lives in Berlin.
