Gioacchino Rossini is considered one of the greatest opera composers in music history. His ability to write captivating melodies with an almost earworm-like character and his great feel for the tastes of his audience brought him Europe-wide fame early on. The composer created an opera for the church, so to speak, in 1863 during his last creative period. His Petite messe solennelle, which at just under ninety minutes is not as short as its name suggests, is his most important sacred work and also one of his best-known. The unusual scoring with soloists, mixed choir, piano and harmonium promises a colorful listening experience.
