Artful improvisations on baroque masters

Marina Baranova's latest program is based on the graceful original music of the Baroque, playing original works by Handel, Rameau and Bach, which serve as the basis for improvisations and very personal new interpretations. Classical forms will come together with gestures from jazz and modern pop music. This results in musical hybrids that awaken a curiosity in the improvised ornamentation of baroque style, an interweaving of contemporary style and the masterpieces of antiquity.

If a person's personality is like a mosaic, then in Marina Baranova's case this mosaic is made up of a particularly large number of particularly colorful and particularly bright stones. Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, and resident in Hanover since the age of 19, her true home has always been music. As the daughter of a married couple of pianists, she became acquainted with the piano, the instrument that was to accompany her throughout her life, even before she was born. Not only did she practice, play and learn on it in her parents' home, it also provided valuable services in composing, improvising and fantasizing. Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky from one direction, jazz and blues from another, transformed Marina Baranova's home into a musical adventure playground. From the very beginning, she was able to develop all the facets that allow her - as a pianist, composer and improviser - to experience music today as a holistic vocation.
