Last fall, Kat Frankie surprised, amazed, moved to tears and thrilled audiences with her BODIES project. On her tour, she sold out the Elbphilharmonie and the Berlin Philharmonie, among others. With their a cappella ensemble, the show drew standing ovations from the audience. Reason enough to further develop BODIES and present it live again.
While Frankie had been incorporating purely vocal parts into her show for some time, the idea of performing an entire concert with only female voices grew in her mind. So she wrote the songs for the "BODIES" EP, which was released in 2020. This was followed by the first performance in the sold-out RBB Sendesaal in Berlin and four more, which made it clear to her that she was working on something big. And the sound is indeed a very special one: without instruments on stage, the eight-piece ensemble delivers an astonishing range of human emotions. Sometimes incredibly powerful, sometimes tender and thoughtful, Frankie's compositions range from passionate to playful. And then there is the sheer physical power of eight women in harmony. Frankie is joined by seven other female vocalists, including some of Berlin's finest indie and jazz artists: Albertine Sarges, Fama M'Boup, Tara Nome Doyle, Liza Wolowicz, Erika Emerson, Barbara Greshake and Trinidad Doherty. But let's give Kat Frankie the floor herself to announce the tour next January: "There are no instruments, which is incredibly liberating for some reason. When there are eight people on stage - eight bodies, eight voices and nothing else - the usual structures and expectations don't seem to apply. To be honest: I hardly think there's anything quite like it. We had a really wild and overwhelming response to the shows last year, but we were just getting started. I'm really looking forward to pushing the boundaries of what a vocal ensemble can do and developing things further. The resonance that eight voices can create together is unlike anything else. BODIES is a very special show and I can't wait for 2025."
