A guided tour of Osnabrück Central Station? What's the point? You buy your ticket or have booked online. You go to the platform, get on the train...that's it. But old stations - like the one in Osnabrück - are also witnesses to railroad history that you can follow. Stations from the early days of the railroad at the end of the 19th century were prestigious, popular places for all classes. The increasing pace of industrialization meant that city centers were bursting at the seams and soon outgrew the dimensions of the old railroad facilities. These became an obstacle and had to be adapted to the new conditions of industrial and urban development. This also applied to Osnabrück, and so a third main station was opened in 1895, which was adapted to modern requirements. To this day, it is one of the few large, crossing-free tower stations in Germany.
