"Democratizing Germany"

After the end of the war, the Allies in the western occupation zones endeavoured to democratize German society as quickly as possible through denazification and re-education. The Soviet occupation zone was a special case. The event will talk about the corresponding experiences in the families.

"Fleeing to the West"

At the end of the Second World War, flight and expulsion in Europe forced large-scale migration movements. The successful reception of many East Germans in the West is now considered a success story of integration. However, this process was by no means free of conflict and was often associated with social difficulties and tensions. As an impulse, Helmut Prien (born 1935) reports on the escape of his wife Helga Strömer (1940-2013). She had to flee with her family from Glauch in East Prussian Masuria in 1945.

"Shaping children"

Childhood experiences have a major influence on later life as an adult. At the event, participants will be asked what particularly shaped them between the ages of 4 and 14 at home, at school and in their local environment. As an introduction, Bernd Kruse will present books for young people from the Nazi era.

"Wolfskinder"

The so-called Wolfskinder are among the special fates of the Second World War. In the turmoil at the end of the war, the war orphans lost contact with their families and relatives, hid in the woods and tried to survive somehow. We are looking for people who can tell us about the "wolf children".
