The princess who wanted to go her own way
Guest at the "Lese-Rampe": Maria Braig with her new publication "Die Nordseeprinzeßin"

The literary series "Die Lese-Rampe" opens the new season with a remarkable publication by Osnabrück writer Maria Braig. Her novel "Die Nordseeprinzeßin" was inspired by a chance encounter. The author recounts:
"The princess really exists. She opened her door to me when I photographed the writings on the windows around her cottage.
What did I want, she asked very kindly.

"I just read what you wrote."
She nodded and looked at me.
I hadn't expected her to talk to strangers at all and so I couldn't think of how to strike up a conversation with her off the top of my head. I nodded to her too and walked away.
We met two or three more times during the vacation days I spent in the house next to her cottage. Each time we greeted each other in a friendly manner.
"Hello, hello" was all I got.
I thought long and hard about whether I should seek out the conversation and ask her about her story, but then decided against it.
I couldn't help her, why should I dredge up old stories and painful memories and possibly end up raising false hopes?
So it remained a "Moin" and the story of the North Sea princess that I tell here could have been like that, or perhaps completely different."

This story begins in 1945. 76 years later, the events of that time are the reason for a family search for clues on a Greek island. "A generational story told with suspense right up to the last page", judges the magazine "Die Siegessäule".
Maria Braig took her first steps into the publishing world as an editor in an era of electric typewriters and Tipp-Ex corrections. After settling in Osnabrück, she wrote her first novels, initially for adults. This was followed by the "5-Doppelpunkte" series and individual titles of books for children.
A short film based on Maria Braig's debut novel "Nennen wir sie Eugenie" was produced at the Düsseldorf youth club PULS. Dr. Anja Joest, science editor and freelance author of teaching materials for politics and social studies, created materials based on this book for lessons at secondary level I.
