Hector Berlioz founded program music with his Symphonie fantastique. He was inspired by Goethe's literature and autobiographical experiences, including his hopeless love for the Irish actress Harriet Smithson. The composer worked with the legendary idée fixe, a kind of leitmotif representing the beloved. Young talents are actively encouraged at this concert: Members of the Lower Saxony Youth Symphony Orchestra will play together with the Osnabrück Symphony Orchestra in the second part of the evening. The form of Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1 is still based on the models of Mozart and Haydn, but the composer's unique character can also be felt.
