Exhibitions take place in many places in Osnabrück - in museums, galleries, art centres and public spaces. In addition to permanent exhibitions that you can visit all the time, many exhibitions only run for a limited time before the next one is on show. It's worth popping in from time to time to make sure you don't miss anything! Here are some tips and an overview.
The exhibition honours the life and work of this Jewish painter, who was not only a talented artist, but also an artist colleague and wife of Felix Nussbaum. With 26 paintings, the Museumsquartier Osnabrück owns the world's largest collection of works by Felka Platek (1899 Warsaw - 1944 Auschwitz). The special exhibition shows paintings and graphics from all creative phases, beginning in Berlin in the late 1920s, through the years of exile in Italy and Belgium to her last works, which were created in hiding in Brussels.
Felka Platek was born in Warsaw on 3 January 1899. She attended the renowned Lewin Funcke School, where she trained as a portrait painter. In 1924, she met the painter Felix Nussbaum. She left Berlin at the end of 1932 to accompany Nussbaum to Italy and never returned to Germany. Felka Platek and Felix Nussbaum were arrested in Brussels on 20 June 1944 and deported to Auschwitz on 31 July 1944, where they were murdered.
This year's special exhibition "Dressed - Rome Makes Fashion" is all about the fashion icons of ancient Rome, the Romans' favourite items of clothing and a few scandals. A look into Roman wardrobes reveals: What is the T-shirt of antiquity? How did a Roman citizen show that he was rich? And why was a silk garment not desirable for everyone?
A look at the present day shows that fast fashion also existed in ancient Rome and our own clothing consumption is perhaps closer to the well-dressed senator than the forced minimalist slave...
