Piesberg colliery: information stand at the Stüveschacht

The Stüveschacht e.V. support association provides information about the history of the Piesberg coal mine and the Stüveschacht complex with a small information stand in the accessible ruins of the former dewatering building.

The dewatering building is the only remaining structure of the Stüveschacht complex, which was built around 150 years ago and where high-quality anthracite coal was mined from a depth of 300m. The Stüveschacht e.V. association has restored the dilapidated building and opened it to the public as an accessible ruin. On the days when the Piesberg light railroad runs (first and third Sunday of the month between May and October), members of the association are available to answer questions in person.
TIP: A visit to the Stüve shaft can be wonderfully combined with a light railway ride and a visit to the MIK Museum of Industrial Culture. In addition to the Haseschacht building with its accessible Hasestollen, the MIK also includes other historical buildings from the time of the Piesberg coal mine. In the permanent exhibition "Man - Nature - Economy", visitors can learn interesting facts about the Piesberg and the economic use of the mineral resources coal and rock. The Piesberg community center also has its origins in the mining era. Where the miners used to meet after work, guests are now treated to home-baked cakes on Sundays from 2 p.m.
