Series "Topographies of Terror"

K 33 is a work of art of classical modernism. Its creator is the Osnabrück-born painter of concrete art, Friedrich Vordemberge-Gildewart (Osnabrück 1899 - Ulm 1962). The Constructivist created his abstract painting "Composition No. 33" in 1927, in the middle of the "Golden Twenties" of the Weimar Republic. The painting fell into the clutches of Nazi art policy in 1937 and was removed from the Osnabrück Museum as "degenerate". Using the latest research, the lecture reconstructs the biography of the painting up to its disappearance in the turmoil of the Second World War.

The "Topographies of Terror" serve as an intensive and critical examination of Nazi ideology and its time, particularly using regional examples. The lecture series is also generally dedicated to the phenomenon of dictatorship, authoritarian governance and their negative consequences for the open and free life of societies. In 2025, the liberation from National Socialism 80 years ago will be the occasion for various events.
