At the beginning of the 19th century, Schinkel was a sparsely populated farming community with just over 300 inhabitants on the outskirts of Osnabrück. The rural idyll and rural coffee houses were a popular excursion destination for city dwellers. There is nothing left of this today, as Schinkel changed abruptly with the construction of the first railroad line in 1855, which led to a steady increase in the number of industrial companies settling here. A workers' settlement with its own infrastructure developed more and more, which was then incorporated into the city of Osnabrück in 1914. To this day, however, the most famous foundation was that of the later VFL Osnabrück in 1899. The district tour traces the development of this special district along the railroad, past industrial plants, through workers' housing estates, by the church and mosque.
