James, a traveling penguin from the South Pole with a thirst for knowledge, meets Vladimir the polar bear at the North Pole. The two become friends and wonder about the length of the polar nights. They set off on a journey around the Earth, to Mars and Saturn in a self-built spaceship.

To solve the mystery of the polar nights, polar bear Vladimir builds an observatory and watches the night sky with penguin James. Wonderful constellations and the planet Saturn with its rings appear. Both come to the conclusion that they need more information and need to look at the Earth from above.

So James and the ingenious engineer Vladimir build a spaceship. They set off on a space journey around the Earth and discover the planets Mars and Saturn. They discover that the planets have a lot in common, but are also very different. They also find the answer to the question of why the nights last so long or are so short.
