On foot along the light railway tracks, the trail leads steadily uphill over the bridge, through the canyon, initially to the eastern side of the Piesberg rock rib at 188 m. Along the way there is information about the light railroad, the quarry industry, the former landfill site, the coal seam in the canyon, the mining of hard coal and the rotting plant. A final small climb and the distant view from the viewing platform at a height of almost 200 m provides a magnificent panoramic view of the Osnabrück region for up to 50 km. Osnabrück is within easy reach in the valley between the Teutoburg Forest and the Wiehengebirge mountains. The blades of wind turbines turn a good 100 m above our heads. The huge quarry is clearly visible. Information on 300 million years of earth history, the former mining industry, the quarry, the wind turbines, fossils, plants and animals round off the tour. Weatherproof clothing, sturdy shoes and a drink are recommended.
