May 8 is symbolic of the end of the Second World War in Europe. The discussion will cover how contemporary witnesses and their families experienced the event 80 years ago and how they categorize the time in retrospect. As an introductory impulse, Rötger Noetzel (born 1937) will read from historical letters that reflect the situation of his family at the beginning of May 1945.
