It was performed for the last time in the Marienkirche in 2012. Now Johann Sebastian Bach's "St. John Passion" will finally be performed again by the Marienkantorei Osnabrück under the direction of KMD Carsten Zündorf.
In compact and impressive scenes, it depicts Jesus' path to the cross and beyond as told in the Bible, whereby the librettist does not draw exclusively from the Gospel of John. The image of Christ is also quite unique: unlike in the "St. Matthew Passion", which focuses on the suffering of Christ, the "Lamb of God", Jesus is portrayed as a self-confident "Lord, our ruler" who takes his predetermined path back to the Father via the cross.
The singers of the choir will be supported for this concert by a number of music students from the University of Osnabrück. The choir and congregation are also delighted to be working with the Neue Hofkapelle Osnabrück under the direction of Christian Heinecke. The soloists are Johanna Ludwig (soprano), Judith Gennrich (alto), Leonhard Reso (tenor), Thomas Laske (bass, arias) and Stefan Adam (bass, Christ).
