1945, 1990, 2011: four generations of a family and a 19th century bourgeois house. At the end of the Second World War, the young communist Rose Kaiser is given the keys to a bourgeois house in the middle of Zagreb, where her family lives through Croatia's political system changes over the coming decades. Hearts are given away and broken, marriages are made and divorced, systems come to power and are deposed again, money piles up and disappears again in the haze of everyday life. The dreams, worries and hopes of individuals relate to the prevailing ideologies of monarchy, communism and capitalism and show how the big political must always interfere with the small private.
