Its strategically favorable location and the old monastery complex made the Gertrudenberg a hotly contested location in the history of Osnabrück, at the gates of the medieval city. The tour explains why the clergy, senators, gardening enthusiasts, researchers and doctors with the "Provinzial-Heil-und Pflegeanstalt" (provincial sanatorium and nursing home) knew how to appreciate and use the hill. Its "holey" interior with the "Gertrudenberger Loch" (Gertrudenberg Hole) prompted speculation from earlier generations and provided enough material for its own treasure trove of legends. It is one of the seven hills of the city of Osnabrück and offers a little-known oasis of peace with the old, magnificent Bürgerpark. Yet it has a particularly lively past, as is told on the above-ground city tour!
