On Sunday, September 3rd, the "bergfest am piesberg" will take place on the Piesberg between 10 am and 7 pm. The popular cultural and family festival with theater, music and hands-on activities will once again take place on the entire Piesberg this year - with special highlights at the top of the Felsrippe. This year's motto is "HandelN & WandelN".
All actors on the Piesberg offer a varied program! The Piesberg project office of the city of Osnabrück is organizing a colourful range of activities and information for young and old at the highest point of Osnabrück. Among others, the toad mobile, the Grashüpfer environmental mobile, the Niedersächsische Landesforsten, the quarry operator GP Papenburg with a children's construction site, the Osnabrücker ServiceBetrieb and the TEERA.vita nature park will be there. The project office will provide information about the goals and projects in the Piesberg Culture and Landscape Park. At 2.30 pm, the nature conservation officer of the municipality of Wallenhorst offers a guided tour to the sequoia tree and through the arboretum on the Piesberg. Equipped with a hammer, gloves and safety goggles, fossils can also be discovered and identified with the help of the geological taxidermist from the Museum am Schölerberg. A climbing castle made of straw is available for children to let off steam, while parents can enjoy a snack and the view. A highlight will be the performance of the Hasethaler 1648 alphorn players, who will try out a musical dialog between the viewing platforms above the quarry. PREMIERE!
The entire path up to the rock rib will be filled with changing stations: visitors will be greeted with harp music by Nicole Müller, miniature local performances at the Earth Age Staircase, juggling as a sculpture that only exists for a fraction of a second and a singing angler. Guests can add their own favorite words to the stone labyrinth.
The hike up the mountain is great fun for young and old alike.
In the chestnut garden of the Piesberger Gesellschaftshauses, Zaches & Zinnober present a groovy mix of virtuoso music, word acrobatics, poetry and ludicrous, grotesque stories. The Oniversum comes to the Piesberg with the crankcase and a richly illustrated listening experience. A splendidly feathered and musical bunch of chickens perform animal-human scenes between and with the audience: the Cock-Tales. In her textile project "Nachlass", artist Eva Preckwinkel also invites guests to join in the sewing. Six musicians from the Kozma Orkestar take their audience on a musical journey across Europe. They combine western and eastern, urban and traditional influences to create a musical romp of the best kind!
On the grounds of the MIK Museum of Industrial Culture, everything revolves around world trade. Berlin futurologist Sacha Dannenberg presents entertaining visions for world trade in 2025 and an illustrator translates visitors' ideas for the future onto a screen in real time. The German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) will present current research on the parcel delivery of the future. There are numerous hands-on and creative activities on the topic of global trade.
The Feldbahn operated by Feldbahn Piesberg Osnabrück e. V. above Fürstenauer Weg shuttles between the Haseschacht, Stüveschacht and Südstieg stations. This is an exciting experience for all ages! The little trains travel at a leisurely pace through the Piesberg forest and provide an exciting insight into the huge quarry. Starting from Südstieg station, guests can take the "Erdzeitaltertreppe" up to the Felsrippe - the highest point in Osnabrück!
We also recommend a detour to the impressive Ruine der Stüveschachtanlage recommended. Where coal was mined and traded on the Piesberg over a hundred years ago, the Stüveschacht e. V. association provides information about the exciting and eventful mining history of Germany's northernmost coal mine at the bergfest.
The "Traditionsbus" association offers hourly tours around the Piesberg on a historic bus. Stops for getting on and off are located on Süberweg, at the Industrial Museum bus stop, at Stüveschacht, at the Grubenweg parking lot and at the Mammutbaum bus stop.
A very special experience is the journey with the historic train of the Osnabrücker Dampflokfreunde - pulled by the V65 from 1956. The trains depart from Osnabrück main station at 10.35 am, 12.35 pm, 2.35 pm and 4.35 pm, with a stopover at the Altstadtbahnhof. Bicycle transport is possible. The Osnabrücker Dampflokfreunde e.V. will be organizing a varied program at the Piesberg colliery station. The Piesberg miniature railroad runs close to the signal box and invites guests to take a ride. This 5-inch train offers an unusual ride on a small circuit around a grove of trees in the small seat carriages, which is a special treat not only for children of all ages. Draisine rides are also offered and the station café is open. Another highlight is the presentation of historic vehicles by the IG Oldtimer, who will be guests at the colliery station.
Those arriving by bicycle, e.g. along the Haseuferweg or the canal cycle path, should use the bicycle parking area opposite the Piesberg Gesellschaftshaus. Cars should arrive via Fürstenauer Weg and use the large parking lot on the former stone storage area on Süberweg. Please note that the Fürstenauer Weg is partially closed. Detours are signposted.
