There is also plenty to discover in the quieter part of Osnabrück's old town. Here you can even walk along the Way of St. James and learn about the exciting excavations of the Chapel of St. James and the Heilig-Geist-Spital. Equally interesting is the transformation of the Dominican monastery from a place of worship and barracks to a temple of the Muses. Situated directly on the former city wall, the church has a neighboring fortified tower, the Bürgergehorsam, whose interior is worth seeing. The street names Gerberhof and Lohstraße, on the other hand, tell of a trade that was often banished to the outskirts of the city due to its intense odor. Further along the route, stone works and the Rampendahaufstand are further important stops before the tour returns to the Jakobsweg and arrives at St. Mary's Church via narrow alleyways.
