In the exhibition "Transit" at Kunstraum hase29, Alice Musiol (*1971 in Katowice, lives and works in Cologne) uses artistic means to explore the multi-layered and, above all, ambivalent experience of transit and being on the move, which shapes and forms people worldwide.
Digitality, global mobility, migration and flight have made being on the move a central theme of our present day. While for some people it means maximum freedom, pleasure and self-determination, for others it is an inescapable necessity dictated by existential constraints. Nomads, travelers, migrants or people on the run all have different experiences that can range from adventure, longing, loneliness, alienation or loss of identity, but are mostly interwoven with the search for a "better place" and therefore imply hope, if not great (future) dreams.
In the broad spectrum between freedom and doom, the exhibition illuminates different realities associated with leaving the familiar and treading new paths. The state of transition can be experienced as a concept that goes beyond individual experiences and is deeply embedded in our social reality.
