The MIK in the historic Haseschacht building shows the history of industrialisation in the region. Powerful steam engines still make the ground shake today, a glass lift goes 30 metres "underground" into the mine's 300-metre-long accessible Hasestollen. It leads to the magazine building - formerly a washhouse - which is now a venue for changing special exhibitions. Right next to it is the former horse stable, where the museum's educational programme invites visitors to join in with geocaching, fossil hunting or paper-making. You can enjoy a bite to eat in the in-house Café MIK, or on the terrace in summer.
