The Western world has been moving towards a permanent state of emergency for years. Politicians react to each new crisis with drastic measures and increasing militarization. Fabian Scheidler warns that this path is leading to a spiral of economic decline, political chaos and war. Fundamental democratic and social achievements are in danger of being sacrificed to a military logic that is presented as inevitable. However, Scheidler is of the opinion that there is no alternative to this path if Western societies abandon the policy of dominance.
