British and Canadian troops reached Osnabrück on April 4, 1945. On this day, the Second World War ended for the city. 80 years later, the Erich Maria Remarque Peace Center is presenting an exhibition that shows the destroyed Osnabrück and the difficult years of reconstruction with numerous photos and documents published for the first time. They illustrate the hopes associated with the rebuilding of the city and democracy.
Notes from Remarque's novels, interviews and diaries prove that and how the Osnabrück-born writer of the anti-war classic "Nothing New in the West" followed or described the events.
