Justus Möser's daughter Jenny had a deep-seated fear of thunderstorms. But at the same time, the first lightning conductors were constructed and experiments with electricity were demonstrated. The Lisbon earthquake shook the whole of Europe, but volcano enthusiasts regularly climbed Mount Vesuvius in wigs and leather boots and enjoyed its eruptions - not without trepidation.
People have always been fascinated and worried by natural phenomena such as thunderstorms, earthquakes and volcanoes. It is true that the investigation of their causes or
their predictability spurs us on to top scientific achievements. However, the phenomena also reveal the limits of human action and knowledge. The audience is taken on an emotional and insightful journey to the great questions of humanity in texts from the 18th century to the present day. The moving reading will be accompanied by a specially tailored sound composition by Udo Becker.
The actor, musician, director and author Siemen Rühaak will host the evening. He is best known for his leading roles in various film and theater productions, television films and series (e.g. Tatort). He also demonstrates his versatility in staged readings, audio books and concerts. Siemen Rühaak is a Grimme Award winner. He most recently filmed with Fatih Akin ("Gegen die Wand") in the feature film "Amrum".
