The New York composer, musician and producer not only ensured the worldwide triumph of the disco sound with his formation CHIC; Rodgers has opened new stylistic doors for many of the biggest stars on the planet with his very special sound between disco, pop, R'n'B and rock. His music career, which began in 1970, is truly unparalleled: From Michael Jackson to Madonna, from David Bowie to Duran Duran, from Britney Spears to Daft Punk, from Pharrell Williams to Kylie Minogue - they all worked with this exceptional artist over the decades and were inspired by his always easy grooving sound feeling. After two decades in which Rodgers worked primarily as a producer for other artists and as a composer of major film soundtracks, he returned to the live stage himself in 2013. Now "It's About Time", the first new CHIC album in 26 years, was released on September 28th and Nile Rodgers is touring the world with it. Between 4 and 7 December, he will also be stopping off in Germany for three concerts in Munich, Frankfurt and Cologne.
It may well have had something to do with his exciting childhood that Nile Rodgers, who was born in 1952 in the Bronx borough of New York, learned to embrace his distinct individuality at an early age. His mother was just 13 years old when she gave birth to him; throughout his childhood he was left to his own devices and absorbed the artistically and socio-politically charged atmosphere of his surroundings. As a teenager, he played guitar in the studio band of "Sesame Street". Together with bassist Bernard Edwards, he then founded the jazz, rock and funk band CHIC in 1970, which became one of the biggest formations of the disco era in the course of the 1970s with worldwide hits such as "Le Freak", "Good Times" and "I Want Your Love". Even during these first successes with CHIC, Rodgers also began to work as a composer and producer for other artists and wrote the two biggest Sister Sledge hits "We Are Family" and "Lost In Music" as well as "Upside Down" for Diana Ross during these years.
With the change of the decade, the disco sound also underwent a shift towards pop and mainstream. Although CHIC remained constantly active until 1992 and released a total of nine albums in 15 years, Rodgers' star rose in the 80s and 90s, primarily as a producer and composer for other artists. These included countless timeless hits that are still regularly played on the radio today, such as "Let's Dance" for David Bowie, "The Wild Boys" for Duran Duran, "Like a Virgin" and "Material Girl" for Madonna and many more.
