They exist in every life: Moments of which we can still tell years later where we were, what we did, heard, saw, when the world around us suddenly changed. They are often captured in photographs. They trace a path that runs parallel to our lives. Annie Ernaux, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, takes us on this journey. We follow her attempt to capture her own perspective on the period between the 1940s and the more recent present. She tells of her awakening political consciousness, the feminist uprising in the wake of the 1968 movement, her emergence from the working class into an academic milieu - always against the backdrop of the fleeting nature of memory. An attempt to capture life in pictures that, in all their privacy, are also contemporary history, and vice versa.
