The floor shakes when the steam engines in the MIK's permanent exhibition get going. A technology that still fascinates today. The guided tour shows the path to the steam engine and thus to industrialization - starting with mining, where steam engines were used to keep water underground. The technical innovations of the 17th and 18th centuries brought about decisive changes in people's living and working environments: working districts emerged, the workplace was centralized and time was recorded by time clocks. Dangers such as bursting boilers and imploding flame pipes also presented workers with new challenges.
