Cornelia Herfurtner is a sculptor. In her works, the artist combines two things: old craft techniques and materials and current research on topics such as publicity, power and the right to demonstrate. For example, she makes wooden reliefs or inlaid pictures. [A wooden relief is a picture carved out of wood] [Inlay pictures are pictures or patterns made from different pieces of wood. The pieces of wood are inserted into a wooden surface like a puzzle]. Cornelia Herfurtner thus creates a connection between then and now in her art.
Cornelia Herfurtner works very carefully, she is careful with the material. That is part of her art. And she also transfers this care to her examination of the responsibility for our coexistence. Her art makes the restriction of the rights of demonstrating people visible. So that they do not become ghosts in our society.
For the cloister and the inner courtyard of the Kunsthalle, Herfurtner brings together both older and new works.
