Created at a time of upheaval, the Renaissance, it combines the traditional musical style of the prima pratica with the progressive style of the seconda pratica. Monteverdi's intention with this work was to apply for the position of chapel master at St. Peter's Basilica in Rome. However, the work was performed in St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. In our performance, specialists
for early music play on instruments from the Renaissance period.
In the 700th anniversary year of the consecration of St. Mary's parish, this will be performed by the Marienkantorei Osnabrück on Sunday, November 10 at 7.00 pm in the Marienkirche. The soloists are Johanna Winkler and Magdalena Podkoscielna (soprano), Leonard Reso and Markus Brutscher (tenor) and Markus Lemke (bass). The singers will be accompanied by professional orchestral musicians, all of whom are specialists in early music. Rolf Uwe Ulbrich is the concertmaster on the first desk. Church music director Carsten Zündorf is the overall conductor.
Tickets for the concert will be available from Sunday, September 1, 2024 at www.eventim.de or - one day later - at the Osnabrück Tourist Information Office.
